SALMON- Richard Lee Malcolm, 79, of Salmon passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 3, 1944, in Salmon Idaho, the son of the late Lee and Ella Malcolm.
He was raised in Salmon until his parents divorced. His mother married Leslie Vezina, who he looked to as his father. Richard then moved to Leadore and graduated from Leadore high school in 1963. During High School, he met the love of his life, Charlotte McConnaghy, and they were married in Salmon in 1965. Rich and Charlotte had three wonderful children: Les, Cheri, and Chad, and were happily married for 58 years.
Rich was a hard worker and was skilled in many areas. His intellect, coupled with his work ethic and can-do attitude, helped him gain employment throughout his life. After Richard graduated, he began his career at the Forest Service. He loved working outdoors and being in the mountains. He also worked for the Cobalt mine with his father and for his Uncle Fred Malcom on the Sandy Creek Ranch. All three places offered Rich the ability to work hard and helped him gain skills that would ultimately lead to his employment at the QB Corporation, where he was employed for 30 years. In life, Rich enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, camping, riding side-by-sides, and attending the 4th of July Breakfast in Leadore.
Richard had a quick wit and was fun-loving. A prankster at heart, he was always up for a laugh. He joked around with his family and friends often and the room would erupt in laughter. Rich often teased his boys that he got “shafted”. The last one happened on his anniversary when he found out he had drawn a Unit 30 elk tag. He was really looking forward to going out, but unfortunately God called him home before he was able to go. We’re sure he’s up in Heaven continuing his prankster ways and until we see him again, we will love him endlessly.
He leaves behind his wife, Charlotte; brother, Bill Vezina; children, Les, Cheri, and Chad; grandchildren, Casey Malcolm, Jacky Malcolm, Hannah Hanson-Butt (Jason), Lacy Jolly (Brandon) and Shade Malcolm; three great-grandchildren and one on the way. He also leaves behind his lifelong friends, Ted Adams and James Whittaker. He was preceded in death by parents; stepfather, Leslie Vezina; sister, Susan Vezina; and two grandchildren, Colton Wade and Angel Lee.
